'Round Rock 2030' Meetings Move To Bigger Venue Amid High Turnout

Residents' level interest in the city's comprehensive growth plan has prompted a change to a larger facility to accommodate crowds.

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS — Due to popular demand, the gathering place for future meeting detailing aspects of the city's comprehensive growth plan dubbed "Round Rock 2030" has been changed to a larger venue, officials said on Thursday.

More than 125 people attended the city’s first of four meetings designed to apprise the public and encourage resident feedback on Round Rock 2030, officials explained. The plan highlights how the city has changed over the past decade toward creating a vision for what Round Rock might look like in by 2030. The creation of the plan is expected to take around a year-and-a-half, officials added, with adoption in spring 2020.

“We were so excited to see the level of turnout we had at our first meeting,” Planning and Development Director Brad Wiseman said in a prepared statement. “It’s clear that our residents understand that, by participating in this planning process, their voices will be heard and help shape Round Rock for future generations.”

Round Rock 2030 will be broad in scope, allowing for flexibility while providing a basis for policy and zoning decisions. The plan will cover development issues across the city, identifying areas that are most suitable or unsuitable for certain types of development.

Due to the high turnout at the first public meeting, officials said, all future meetings will take place at the Baca Center Dining Room, 301 W. Bagdad Ave. The meetings are open to the public and will include the same presentation but each meeting is assigned a geographical quadrant of the city. Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting associated with the area of town where they live. The meeting will be formal presentation style, with opportunities for attendees to participate in an interactive poll using their cell phones.
