Round Rock Bank Robbery Suspect Identified

Brian Keith Powell, 54, allegedly robbed the Austin Telco Federal Credit Union before leading police in a chase that ended in Belton.

ROUND ROCK, TX — Police have identified the man accused of robbing a federal credit union before leading police on a 40-mile chase.

Brian Keith Powell, 54, is charged with having entered the Austin Telco Federal Credit Union at 121 University Oaks in Round Rock at around 5:20 p.m. on Jan. 25, according to reports. He is said to have handed the teller a note before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Powell led police on a chase along Interstate 35 that ended in Belton, Texas, some 42 miles north of the city. The chase ended when Powell's car wrecked at the intersection of Central Avenue and a frontage road.

Powell has since been charged with aggravated robbery, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
