Round Rock Cancels 'Christmas Family Night' Due To Expected Rain
Those anticipating the holiday event will be dismayed, but officials point to 'Christmas Towne,' 'Hometown Holiday' lights for more cheer.

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS — The Christmas Family Night event in Round Rock — originally scheduled for Friday, Dec. 7 — has been canceled due to the likelihood of heavy rain on Friday.
The free holiday event is popular with residents each holiday season, originally scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m. this year with a welcome from the mayor at the intersection of May and Main streets. At the event, Main Street was to be decorated with small wooden houses featuring various games and activities for the kids, followed by the illumination of all-new Hometown Holiday lights ahead of Santa's grand entrance.
The breadth of entertainment was scheduled by The Dance Works; Dance Gallery; Honeybees Baton Twirling; Ballet Folklorico; Let’s Rock Music School; and Stars of Texas Homeschoolers.

In making the original announcement alerting to the event, city officials vowed to stage it despite inclement weather: "The event will happen rain or shine," Round Rock officials vowed, with the of bold face type to emphasize the point. "There will be no rain date."
But Friday's rain won't be your run-of-the-mill precipitation, but heavy stuff with the potential to produce flash flooding. For details, read: Central Texas Region Under Flash Flood Watch.

City officials even had a Christmas Family Night Flyer 2018 printed up and ready to go before Mother Nature said "bah, humbug!" or whatever the analogous, wordless sentiment to that effect might be.
Yet Round Rock officials vow this unexpected climactic buzz killer won't ruin the holidays entirely: "This will not dampen our holiday spirit here in Round Rock as we invite our residents to join us for 11 days of Christmas Towne at the Old Settlers Association Dec.13 thru the 23," city officials wrote in a municipal advisory. "Christmas Towne features amazing light displays including a walking tunnel of lights, full-scale carnival rides, holiday refreshments and more!"
