Round Rock Police ID Victim, Suspect In Wag-A-Bag Fatal Shooting

Kendrick Tremayne Newman, 40, formally charged with murder in shooting death of John Lawrence Ammon, 43, after turning himself in to police.

ROUND ROCK, TX — Police on Thursday identified both the victim and suspect in connection to a fatal shooting at a gas station from the previous night.

Just before noon on Thursday, the Round Rock Police Department issued the update on the deadly shooting that took place Wednesday night at the Wag-A-Bag store at 1490 E. Old Settlers Blvd.

The victim was identified as John Lawrence Ammon, 43, of Round Rock. The suspect, also of Round Rock, was identified as Kendrick Tremayne Newman, 40, who has been charged with murder after turning himself into the Williamson County Jail, officials said.

Police said they believe there are additional witnesses to the shooting incident who have yet to come forward. Anyone with information is urged to contact police by calling 512-218-5500.

Police were called to the Wag-A-Bag store on East Old Settlers Boulevard at about 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday in reference to a disturbance during which shots were fired. Upon their arrival, police found the deceased male victim at the site. Detectives promptly interviewed multiple witnesses and reviewed store surveillance in gathering a description of the suspect.

Police did not provide details as to what may have led to the shooting, nor did they indicate whether Ammon was an employee at the Wag-A-Bag store. Patch will update as more details are released by the police.

According to Williamson County Jail records, Newman has twice been charged with driving without a license in August 2013 and January 2014. As of noon Thursday, no bond had been set on the murder charge.
