Round Rock Student Accused Of Invasive Recording Is Coach's Son

Cory McMahan, 18, son of McNeil High football coach Howard McMahan, is accused with Corbin Banda, 17, of recording student using bathroom.

ROUND ROCK, TX — One of the McNeil High School students recently indicted for recording a person using a bathroom without his consent is the son of the school's football coach, according to a published report.

The Austin American-Statesman identified the accused student as Cory McMahan, 18, son of McNeil High School football coach/athletic director Howard McMahan. The younger McMahan and fellow student Corbin Banda, 17, both were recently indicted on invasive visual recording charges, a state felony punishable by up to two years in jail.

The two students shared the recording of the student in the bathroom on Snapchat, a popular app used to share videos for short periods of time before becoming inaccessible. When contacted about the matter by the Statesman, Round Rock ISD spokesperson Jenny LaCoste-Caputo previously declined to identify the accused students, citing privacy issues.

She also told the newspaper previously the incident didn't warrant a widely issued alert to all parents of children enrolled at the school — usually conveyed in the form of a letter or email — as is the custom with matters deemed worthy of broad communication. “This was not a situation that warranted a school-wide letter,” LaCoste-Caputo said at the time. “We dealt with it with the parties involved.”

The recording incident dates to Nov. 27 before arrest warrants were issued on April 6 for both student, the newspaper reported. However, records indicate neither has been booked into the Williamson County Jail. The report also reveals that the sheriff's office is now zeroing in on another suspect who is a minor, but charges have yet to be determined.

The victim's mother told the Statesman he was too embarrassed to return to McNeil High School after the video of him using the bathroom was shared, and he opted to finish his senior year at another school.
