Sixth Case Of Legionnaires' Disease Originating From Round Rock Hotel Confirmed
SpringHill Suites by Marriott hotel has been closed while an investigation continues as to how people became infected there.

ROUND ROCK, TX — A sixth case of Legionnaires' disease has been confirmed stemming from a Round Rock hotel forced to temporarily close after five others were felled by the respiratory ailment.
Health officials confirmed last week an outbreak of the respiratory illness originated at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott, 2960 Hoppe Trail. Those afflicted had contact with the heated swimming pool or hot tub before taking ill, an official at the Williamson County and Cities Health District told the Austin American-Statesman.
Health officials warned that even more cases could still emerge given the 12-day incubation period for the disease. The hotel was closed on Oct. 4 after the cases were confirmed.

Legionnaire's disease can cause life-threatening pneumonia, with the bacteria causing it thriving in water heated to a minimum of 85 degrees. Simply inhaling the mist from affected water could spark the illness. Health officials said samples contained the bacteria's DNA, confirming its presence.
