Speaking at LUPE’s San Juan headquarters alongside Sen. Alex Padilla, she and local advocates describe rising immigration enforcement and growing anxiety among Rio Grande Valley families with lapsed or vulnerable DACA status.

• Thousands of children are losing parents to ICE detention, report says (abc27.com) — A recent report on ICE detentions was highlighted during a news conference in San Juan, where a Texas civil rights leader warned that local Rio Grande Valley families are being torn apart. The study estimates over 145,000 U.S.-citizen children nationwide have lost at least one parent to ICE custody since 2025, with thousands losing all parental support and facing long-term emotional and economic harm.
