1. How San Antonio businesses are working on the Spurs' new arena (sanantonioreport.org) — San Antonio's new $1.3 billion Spurs arena and $1.4 billion entertainment district downtown is moving forward with a heavy emphasis on hiring local firms and contractors. City and county funding, community listening sessions, and requirements for local business participation mean this project could shape jobs, public spaces, and the look and feel of downtown for years to come.
2. San Antonio's Suck It restaurant closing after 16 years (mysanantonio.com) — San Antonio food fans have until December 31 to visit Suck It: The Restaurant in the Medical Center before it closes after 16 years. Chef-owner Vinh Hoang cites economic pressures and health issues but hints at future ramen pop-ups, closing a chapter that began as a UTSA-area hookah and bubble tea lounge and grew into several playful Asian concepts around the city.
3. 'Never forget': How a Pentagon survivor helped inspire a Lanier graduate to serve in the Army (kens5.com) — A new mural at Lanier High School on San Antonio's West Side honors local culture and highlights graduate Raymond Leija's journey from JROTC cadet to active-duty soldier. Guided by Pentagon survivor and longtime JROTC instructor Lt. Col. Santiago Bueno, Leija's story shows how 9/11 memories and neighborhood pride continue shaping young San Antonians' paths of service.
4. 'We were shocked': Thief caught on camera stealing thousands of dollars in equipment from south side auto shop (kens5.com) — A long-running family auto shop on San Antonio's south side is asking neighbors for help after a man stole several high-value diagnostic scanners and a drill in broad daylight. Surveillance cameras captured the suspect and his Dodge Charger, and San Antonio police are investigating while the owners hope someone recognizes him and helps recover their vital equipment.
5. Fiesta San Antonio members to choose official 2027 poster design at '5 to 1' event (ksat.com) — Fiesta San Antonio members have just voted on the official 2027 poster design during a '5 to 1' event at the San Antonio Garden Center, though the winning artwork stays secret until January 28, 2027. With Fiesta 2027 set for April 15–25, organizers say the poster helps symbolize a celebration that pumps hundreds of millions into San Antonio's economy and local nonprofits.
