Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:
- Start the day off with brunch on Mother's Day this Sunday, May 8. To celebrate, various restaurants in town "will be offering specials to mark the occasion." In addition, brunch at the San Antonio Zoo will also be held "on the outdoor Fiesta terrace" and each ticket will include "two complimentary mimosas for guests ages 21 and older." The cost for this event is separate from the zoo admission ticket cost, and spots are limited, so please make your reservations as soon as possible. The brunch event doesn't include zoo admission, so if you'd like to visit the zoo, please purchase a zoo admission ticket as well. For more information and for a list of eateries that are offering brunch on Mother's Day, please visit: (KSAT San Antonio)
- Friday, May 6 is Military Spouse Appreciation Day and that day, "the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a resource fair" for local military families "from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Endeavors Veterans Wellness Center, located at 6333 De Zavala Road." Lori Stinson, a former military spouse, said, "This is a way that we can connect to our military spouses with the resources of education, career opportunities. Moving frequently means that we don't establish roots anywhere and many times we're moving and we're not close to family." She added, "San Antonio really welcomed us, it was friendly, it definitely had a lot of resources for us, welcomed my children with open arms and they got into athletics and everything else, so it was a very welcoming experience for sure." - Enjoy a unique experience on Friday, May 6, when Agarita chamber quartet ensemble and local multi-dimensional artist Nadia Botello present her "'Ojo de Agua,' a series of two works that meditates on San Antonio's waterways and which are intended to be listened to above and below water." The presentation "incorporates audio from recordings taken via hydrophone as well as interpretations of scientific data related to local waterways. The final layer of the experience is down to the listeners, who must choose how they take in the experience." Ojo de Agua will not be like "the rest of the evening's program," as the audio for that work "will only be played into the water, so it will require immersion to get the full experience."
