San Antonio (Oct. 20, 2021) – Being defined as an artist is still difficult for the self-taught Anthony C. Edwards, more than three decades after he began painting at age 41 – even though his work has been sold in galleries. The majority of Edwards’ paintings were created after attending an exhibition at the High Museum in Atlanta, Georgia in the early 1980’s. This visit gave Edwards a profound understanding of the importance of African American Art.

Edwards work resides in San Antonio Museum of Art’s permanent collection and was included in the Harriet and Harmon Kelley Collection of African American Art exhibition at the Smithsonian Institute. Edwards’ exhibition will provide the public a rare opportunity to view his own paintings and stained-glass creations alongside curated pieces from his personal Afrocentric art collection, including three Jonas Perkins sculptures and rare photographs by E.O. Goldbeck.
