SAN ANTONIO (October 27, 2021) Beginning today, Citizen led Bond Committees will begin reviewing recommended projects for the Proposed 2022 – 2027 Bond Program. The list of projects was developed by City staff and included input from the Mayor and City Council, external agencies and residents collaborating to recommend strategic investments in projects that advance public health and safety, connectivity, resiliency and equity.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to invest in basic infrastructure and impactful projects throughout the entire city. Bond programs allow the City to address critical needs like drainage, streets and sidewalks, bring forward new transportation and mobility options and bring much-needed parks and facilities to our communities,” said City Manager Erik Walsh. “The community bond committee members will now work to shape the bond program’s project list and make recommendations to City Council, which will approve a final bond program in February. Following that, voters will consider the program in May. I want to thank all residents who have volunteered their time to serve on these committees.”
The bond program would allow the City to make major investments in basic infrastructure, such as streets, sidewalks, drainage, community facilities and for the first time housing. The 2022 – 2027 Bond Program is anticipated to be $1.2 billion and proposes investments of $480 million for streets, $274 million for parks (including $110 million for the linear greenway program), $162 million for drainage, $150 million for housing, $61 million for municipal facilities and $73 million for public safety and health facilities.
Five community bond committees, comprised of individuals with various backgrounds from across the community, will review and discuss the list of recommended projects. They are charged with critically evaluating and recommending a prioritized list of projects to City Council before an election is called.
The community bond committee meetings are open to the public. Residents and organizations are invited to participate in any of the five community bond committee meetings through Public Comment during the second and third meetings of each focus area:
- Streets, Bridges & Sidewalks
- Drainage & Flood Management
- Parks, Recreation & Open Space
- Facilities
- Housing
The community bond committee meetings will begin October 27, 2021 and will continue through December 16, 2021, as needed. All meetings will be held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center located at 900 E. Market Street. Parking is free and meetings are open to the public. Spanish and American Sign Language interpretation will be available. All meetings will be livestreamed at www.youtube.com/cosagov.
Following the community input phase, the community bond committees will submit their recommended projects to the Mayor and City Council for final consideration in January 2022. Upon review and approval, the Mayor and City Council will create a call to action for the bond program in February 2022. With this action, the proposed 2022-2027 Bond Program would then go before voters for approval in May 2022. Residents can visit www.sanantonio.gov/2022bond for more information.
