Study says San Antonio's mental health care access is worst in the U.S. (star-telegram.com) — San Antonio residents face some of the nation's worst access to mental health treatment, with just one registered facility per 100,000 people and average travel distances over seven miles for in-person care. A new study using federal data ranks the San Antonio–New Braunfels metro at the bottom nationally and shows Bexar County lagging most U.S. counties, underscoring how limited local options may delay or prevent needed treatment.

3. Dallas, DFW Officers Earn Officer Of The Year Honors (wbap.com) — San Antonio hosted the 50th anniversary convention of the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, where Gov. Greg Abbott honored 17 officers from across the state as 2026 Texas Officers of the Year. While most recipients are from other cities, one San Antonio Police Department officer was recognized, and the governor used the local event to declare October as Law Enforcement Appreciation Month statewide.

August spending was down in San Antonio, based on sales tax revenue (tpr.org) — San Antonio's August consumer spending fell about 10% from last year, partly because the city's sales tax rate dropped in January, leaving $37 million returned from August sales. While other big Texas cities saw stronger gains, San Antonio still posted July growth and maintains unemployment slightly below the statewide rate, even as state sales tax revenues rise overall.
