City Of San Antonio: Councilman Perry Comments On Special Session Regarding 2022-2027 Bond Program

SAN ANTONIO (October 27, 2021) – Today, City Council met to discuss the recommended changes to the 2022-2027 Bond Program. The following statement is in response to today’s meeting:

“The proposed changes by City staff were a good start, but frankly not enough to make a real difference in the desperate infrastructure needs of this city. With $6.6B of need, we can and should do more to help our residents where they need it most – in their districts. I was proud to call this meeting with Councilwoman Castillo and Councilman Courage to ensure that this conversation, that will have a direct impact on every San Antonian and visitor, would happen publicly. Today’s discourse proved to me that an additional meeting was needed to discuss this major issue further.

I supported Councilwoman Castillo and Councilman McKee-Rodriguez’s motions to reduce the funding to Parks, by way of the Linear Greenway Trails, to distribute funding equitably across the council districts for infrastructure needs. Both efforts were an attempt to further support the needs of our neighborhoods, and both efforts failed 5-6.

Although these motions did not pass, today’s discussion was essential to transparency and serves as evidence of how each elected representative prioritizes our City’s needs. I look forward to the final recommendation put forth by the Community Bond Committees.”
