SAN ANTONIO (August 12, 2021) – City Manager Erik Walsh briefed the City Council today regarding City staff’s work on the 2022 Budget. Recognizing that this is still a work in progress, Councilwoman Cabello Havrda made the following statement from dais:
“The pressing issues in each district are street level services, the things that people see every day when they look out their front door. As far as District Six’s (D6) needs are concerned, transportation, streets, drainage, animal care, and code compliance are priorities.
Thank you for the tremendous work that you all have done with the D6 office on land use and Development. The district is growing rapidly, which creates issues every day for the community. These concerns are brought to city staff on behalf of the good people of D6 and you always step up, you always respond. Your diligence, and sometimes creativity and dedication to addressing these problems is appreciated. Thank you as well for considering some of the specific D6 budget asks which are associated with police. There is a lot of green space in D6, which is fortunate, but it can be difficult to access, so I’ve asked for three alternative vehicles for substation West; increasing Fire Department support for fire stations 35, 41, 44 and 45, which includes, in some cases, plumbing upgrades. The Mexican American Civil Rights Institute has a funding request that, of course, is strongly supported. Preliminary financial commitment for the development of a destination Park in District Six, which is exciting. And a Healthy Corner Store for the Edgewood area. Again, thank you for working on all of these budget asks, and for your hard work and diligence in responding to the requests of the people of D6.”
