SAN ANTONIO (September 3, 2021) — Today, Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran released the following statement in observance of Labor Day:
“This year, as we commemorate Labor Day 2021, we recognize the sacrifice and hard efforts of our fellow San Antonians who have labored through the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic to keep our community thriving - even through the toughest times. Labor Day holds a greater meaning as we honor the front-line workers who provided essential services to our community. During this pandemic, we recognize all those in San Antonio and Bexar County who made the transition to work from home to reduce the spread of Covid-19 and keep the city moving through the crisis. We witnessed furloughs, mass layoffs, and many business closures. Today, we are committed to bringing our community back to work and creating a path to full economic recovery. This holiday weekend, let us come together and reflect on the value, worth and poise of the hard-working San Antonio and Bexar County families that have persevered during these challenging times. We honor the American labor movement along with the brave men and women who stood and fought for worker’s rights.”
