SAN ANTONIO (October 28, 2021) — Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran and District 3 staff celebrated First Responders Day by visiting the seven fire stations located in the district. National First Responders Day on October 28 recognizes the heroic men and women who take immediate action when disaster strikes.
"We all know directly or indirectly of someone who a first responder has helped. Whether career or volunteer, thank you to all firefighters, police officers, EMTs, nurses, and those who are first on the scene in emergencies. These men and women risk their own lives for the safety of others," said Councilwoman Viagran.

First responders always deserve appreciation but this year in particular for their efforts throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
"First responders always go above and beyond and without hesitation stepped up during the COVID-19 pandemic. We celebrated with SAFD this morning to personally thank them for their front-line efforts during unprecedented times."
In addition to regular duties, SAFD pivoted to serve the community through the COVID-19 pandemic. They partnered with Metro Health on mass vaccinations sites and case investigations; they assisted nursing homes with testing, mass vaccinations sites both mobile and home visits for the non-mobile.
"We thank them not only today but every day for their service and commitment to our community. All of our first responders are indeed our heroes.”
