City Of San Antonio: Emergency Adoption Event Held This Coming Week At Animal Care Services
Standard adoptions processes apply, and ACS cannot place holds on any pets—adoptions are first come, first served.

SAN ANTONIO (August 15, 2021) – Animal Care Services and the BISSELL Pet Foundation are hosting an emergency adoption event for the municipal shelter this week in hopes of easing overcrowding. The special Empty the Shelters event will run Monday, August 16th through Sunday, August 22nd. The event will spotlight some of the shelter’s harder to adopt pets with reduced adoption fees of $25 for larger dogs over 40 pounds and senior dogs over 7 years old as well as $5 reduced adoptions for cats over 6 months old.
All pets adopted during Empty the Shelters event are sterilized, vaccinated, and microchipped with a lifetime registration included. Animal Care reminds residents that being a pet parent is a long-term commitment that should be made thoughtfully, and adopters can get started before coming in by using ACS’ online resources:

Adoption appointments are strongly encouraged to guarantee entry during the event; however, ACS allows walk-ins as space permits. Standard adoptions processes apply, and ACS cannot place holds on any pets—adoptions are first come, first served. ACS is located at 4710 State Highway 151.
