SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 25, 2021) — Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan today named Mayor Ron Nirenberg to the EPA’s Local Government Advisory Committee.
“I’m honored to welcome this diverse, highly qualified group of local leaders who will bring valuable insight and experience to the Agency,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “EPA is counting on their input and collaboration to help achieve our mission to protect public health and the environment in every zip code. From tackling climate change to advancing environmental justice, we need local partners at the table to address our most pressing environmental challenges.”
“Serving on this EPA committee is an exciting opportunity, and I appreciate being appointed. Local governments are on the frontline of public service and facing the consequences of environmental policy. My role on this committee will give me the opportunity to represent San Antonio residents in another important venue. I look forward to working toward the advancement of environmental equity and justice as well as a focus on sustainability.” said Mayor Nirenberg.
The EPA Local Government Advisory Committee provides independent policy advice to the EPA administrator on a broad range of issues affecting local governments. The 39-member committee includes representatives from 30 states, Tribal nations, and U.S. territories.
