SAN ANTONIO (August 31, 2021) — Today, Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran released the following statement addressing the projected hundreds of Afghan refugees that will arrive in San Antonio due to the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan:

“To the refugees from Afghanistan, welcome to San Antonio. Our city, known as Military City USA, is compassionate and embraces diversity and all cultures,” stated Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran. “To my fellow San Antonians, we must stay actively engaged to ensure these refugee families are safe and are provided the proper necessities to live. It is vital that we assist the Afghan refugees who helped our U.S. Military for over a two-decade war, amid the growing crisis in Afghanistan. By partnering with agencies to secure affordable housing, groceries and assist with home goods, we can ease the burden of these families who have experienced pain and trauma.”
