  1. Recently San Antonio Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller was invited to a "meeting between the Uvalde shooting victims' "families and President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden." During the meeting, he said, "the father of a girl who passed away just went back to the President and First Lady and said, 'Could you see this video of my daughter?' And they were very gracious, and they invited me to watch the video... So, we watched, and the video had beautiful moments of the girl, and it was reflective of a setting we need to build up." 2. On Monday, June 6, volunteers will be able to "build care packages and write cards" for families in Uvalde, to be sent by The San Antonio Food Bank "with their usual food deposit to benefit the community." According to San Antonio Food Bank officials, this is "an opportunity for folks to make their standard food drop-offs a reminder that Uvalde is still in their prayers. "Eric Cooper, CEO for San Antonio Food Bank, said, 'It's unity. It's healing. There's an opportunity to be together and share. But as we prepare for our distributions in Uvalde, for the upcoming weeks, it's been great to see people coming out and volunteer.'" (KSAT San Antonio)

Ric Baser from Northwest Vista College retired in May, and Robert Vela from San Antonio College "is leaving in June to become president of Texas A&M University-Kingsville." Alamo Colleges District Chancellor Mike Flores said, "We're fortunate that each of the institutions and the faculty, staff and community are really attractive places to be. It's an exciting time to be either at Northwest Vista or at SAC and Alamo." He added, "I think that we will have uber-competitive pools, and that a lot of folks are wanting to come to be part of the Alamo Colleges." For more details visit: (Texas Public Radio)
  5. As summer approaches, "San Antonio leaders urge young drivers to follow rules of the road." One group that's working "to reiterate that message and encourage better driving choices" is the "Johnson High School's Safe Driving Club." Student members "created a digital campaign" and on Tuesday, May 31, met with "San Antonio leaders at City Hall... to roll out the Drive Safely SA campaign." The campaign offers young drivers safety driving tips to make "better driving choices," and parents are asked "to remind their teens to follow the rules of the road." San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said "I would encourage all of us to continue to hammer that message home. Don't take it for granted that your child is going to be out there being as safe as they should." For more information visit: (KSAT San Antonio)
