Happy Thursday, people of San Antonio! Here's everything you need to know going on today.

First, today's weather:

Tropical Rainstorm Pamela. High: 94 Low: 69.

Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:

  1. Start your weekend on a sweet note by going to the grand opening of the new Jugo location at 15069 Interstate 35 in the Forum Pointe Shopping Center. The Canada-based smoothie and superfood shop is the fourth one in San Antonio, and there are plans to open a fifth one in the future. Enjoy a cold-pressed juice, a delicious smoothie, a healthy protein bowl or a good cup of tea. After the grand opening, the store will be open Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m.-7:30 p.m. and weekends, 8 a.m.-7 p.m. (San Antonio Current)
  2. For the second year in a row, San Antonio residents will get a chance to test smart city technologies at the SmartSA Sandbox event hosted by The City of San Antonio's Office of Innovation. This year the event will be at the Yanaguana Garden at Hemisfair, located at 434 South Alamo St. in Downtown San Antonio. Visitors will get to experience "activities centered around data collection and storytelling, opportunities to take a deep dive into City applications like 311SA and services provided by the San Antonio Public Library, and robotics activities presented by Youth Code Jam, who will also have on display their child-friendly robot named Mylo." The event will be held on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and is free and open to the public. (Press Release Desk)
  3. The spookiest time of year is here! After the trick-or-treating and costume parties, why not sit down for a good spooky read? "Small Spaces" by Katherine Arden is a good choice to add to the list of Halloween fun time. The story is about 11-year old Ollie who sees "a woman throwing a book into a creek" and "decides to take the book home and read it." The book is about a "family that made a pact with the smiling man and then disappeared." She "thinks it's just a story until she stumbles across the graves of the very people from her book while on a class field trip to a local dairy farm." Check out Arden's book at The San Antonio Public Library to find out the rest of the scary tale and have a spooky Halloween! (Press Release Desk)
  4. It's not too early to start planning for next year, and there's no better thing than to start the new year with a good laugh! "Stand-up comedian and actress, Fortune Feimster, will give San Antonio some laughs at the beginning of the new year during a stop on her '2 Sweet 2 Salty' tour." Feimster has appeared on several TV shows and casts, including "The Mindy Project" and "Champions." The San Antonio show will be held on Jan. 22 at The Tobin Center's H-E-B Performance Hall located at 100 Auditorium Circle.
