When eleven-year-old Ollie stumbles across a woman throwing a book into a creek, she decides to take the book home and read it. The book is about a long-ago family that made a pact with the smiling man and then disappeared. Ollie thinks it’s just a story until she stumbles across the graves of the very people from her book while on a class field trip to a local dairy farm. When their school bus breaks down on the way home and their teacher disappears, Ollie and two of her classmates set out into the woods to get help. Before they leave the bus, the creepy bus driver warns them to keep to the small spaces, as something is already coming for them.
