Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:
- After a two year pause due to COVID-19, the Passion Play will be held once again in San Antonio on Friday, April 15. The local play which "recreates the trial and crucifixion of Jesus Christ," is a Good Friday tradition that started in 1983, "when the wooden cross carried by the actor playing Jesus weighed 150 pounds, compared to the 50-pound cross used today." The route will start at Milam Park and will end in front of San Fernando Cathedral, where Jesus will be crucified. San Fernando Cathedral parishioner, John Austin, will portray Jesus and parishioner Loreily Ortiz will play the part of Mary. The director of the play this year is parishioner Edgar Holguin. Parents of younger children and sensitive individuals are warned that "the play is very graphic due to the nature of the story." A press conference with more details will be held on Wednesday, April 13. For a list of Easter services at San Fernando Cathedral, please visit: (KSAT San Antonio)
- San Antonians are proud of their local San Antonio Zoo, which is rated the best zoo in Texas and "No. 2 in the country, behind only the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington D.C." Actually, "in the last five years, San Antonio Zoo has been named Best Zoo in Texas (Readers Digest), Top 10 Sightseeing Tickets Sold in World (TripAdvisor), Best Family Attraction (San Antonio Current), Best Forward Thinkers (San Antonio Magazine), and most recently, Readers' Choice for Best Local Tourist Attraction along with the River Walk and Pearl Brewery (Express-News)." According to zoo officials, "the award-winning work in conservation, animal welfare, and education locally and around the world are what makes our zoo the best."
