(kens5.com) — San Antonio's newly approved 2027 budget brings a wave of fee hikes, including a new $30 annual charge for non-city residents to use San Antonio Public Library materials. City leaders say more than 170 fee changes, plus the first property tax rate increase since the 1990s and department cuts, are needed to avoid a major deficit. Library officials have begun warning cardholders about the new charge.

A Trinity University economist notes wages here trail the national average, but cheaper homes and amenities like the food scene, Spurs, and the Pearl help tip the scales. Locals are even favoring San Antonio over Austin on affordability.
   

• Billboard decrying conditions inside Dilley ICE detention center goes up in San Antonio (sacurrent.com) — A new billboard at Loop 1604 and Potranco in North San Antonio is calling attention to migrant children held at the Dilley detention center, 70 miles away. Backed by the anti-Trump Save America Movement and supported by Rep. Joaquin Castro's visits, the sign aims to refocus public concern on conditions activists describe as abusive.
