Happy Tuesday, neighbors! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening in San Antonio today.

First, today's weather:

Sun and areas of high clouds. High: 83 Low: 64.

Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:

  1. In support of Breast Cancer Awareness and Domestic Violence Awareness, the San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is glowing with pink and purple lights this month. The pink lights acknowledge Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the purple lights support Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The lights, which alternate between purple and pink, will be shown until Oct. 31. To learn more about the two national awareness campaigns, visit: (Press Release Desk)
  2. This year again, the San Antonio River Walk will shine early in the season with beautiful, glowing holiday lights. "Traditionally, the lights are turned on the day after Thanksgiving at the Ford Holiday River Parade," but to spread some cheer during the COVID-19 pandemic, they will be lit early, just like last year. "This year the 100,000 holiday lights that illuminate the River Walk during the holidays will be turned on Nov. 12" and "the official lighting ceremony will still take place during the parade on Nov. 26." (KSAT San Antonio)
  3. To improve digital literacy and foster connections "during times of social isolation," the "San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) and the City of San Antonio's Department of Human Services (DHS) are piloting a new free Device Lending Program." The program allows older adults "to check out a free iPad from one of five DHS-managed senior centers" up to six months to use the internet and connect with family, friends, and health care providers. For more details on "the many benefits of using a digital device: and for a list of DHS senior centers where devices can be checked out, visit: (Press Release Desk)
  4. This year, San Antonio's 2M Smokehouse and Pinkerton's Barbeque made the Texas Monthly's 50 Best BBQ Joints list! 2M Smokehouse, on 2731 S WW White Road, opened in 2016. Some tasty features are "the smoked beef cheek barbacoa (available on special the first Sunday of every month) along with serrano and Oaxaca cheese stuffed sausages, pickled nopales, and mac and cheese with chicharrones" which you can enjoy Thursday through Sunday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Pinkerton's Barbeque, which opened in 2021, is located at 107 W. Houston St. Some specialties are "the joints duck-and-sausage jambalaya and Louisiana-style boudin, glazed 'candy paint' pork ribs, jalapeño-cheese sausage, and, of course, the brisket." Enjoy their tasty dishes Sunday and Wednesday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. (mySA)
  5. The San Antonio Public Library recommends the book "Miny Kim And The Big Pizza Challenge" by Lyla Lee. The story is about 9-year-old Mindy Kim, who is in 4th grade, and comes from a small family that includes "just her and her dad." She decides to enter "a trivia contest at her school's Family Trivia Night" to win "free pizza for a year," but her dad doesn't "know answers to pop culture and history questions" because he was born in Korea. She still feels positive "until her teacher hosts a pretend trivia contest in class one day and her team loses," and now she has to decide if winning is all that matters. Enjoy a good read and learn a valuable lesson, both at the same time. (Press Release Desk)
