🌱SA Brewery Brings Home Gold + SA Zoo No. 1 In TX And No. 2 In U.S.

Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:

  1. San Antonio's 5 Points Food & Drink restaurant, located at 1017 N Flores St., is closing down "due to lack of staff." Owner "Michael Sohocki is the latest restaurant owner to feel the post-pandemic squeeze." The venue which "opened in January" is housed where "Sohocki's ramen shop Kimura and new loft bar Dash" are located. Sohocki did not say "whether he plans a return for Five Points or whether that's even a consideration." (San Antonio Current)
  2. On Sunday, July 10, at approximately 2 a.m., 34-year-old Aldo Cabrera was "hit by a maroon 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 when he was walking in a parking lot in the 7500 block of U.S. Highway 90 West." Although he was taken to the hospital, unfortunately he later died that night. According to police, "the driver was initially booked for intoxication assault, but charges may be upgraded."   3. On Monday, July 11, "the results for the 2022 U.S. Beer Open were posted and a San Antonio brewery brought home some gold." That brewery is Second Pitch Beer Company, which "took gold in the Bitter category with Admiral Stradlings Pub Ale and gold in California Common with Hometown Lager." In addition, "they took silver in the American IPA category with the Meet in the Middle IPA." For more details visit: (mySA)

Recently the San Antonio Zoo, located at 3903 N Saint Marys St., was named No. 1 in Texas and No. 2 in the U.S. by the Texas Travel Awards and just a few month before, "international publication Blooloop named the zoo No. 1 in Texas and No. 2 in the U.S." Recently the zoo added some new attractions, including "the new realm NEOTROPICA, a brand-new train, Project Selva 4D Theater, the reimagining of the F.C. Hixon Bird House... the malodorous corpse flower blooming, and the launch of Planet Earth, Deep Sea Adventures." Tim Morrow, president and CEO of the San Antonio Zoo, said, "We are honored once again to be called the Best Zoo in Texas as well as one of the best in the country." More details at: (KENS5.com)
  5. A new movie titled, "The Answer to My Prayer" starring singer Luis Fonsi is set in San Antonio. "According to a Deadline exclusive, the movie follows the romantic mishaps of three friends in San Antonio. The dating destinies of the trio are changed by an ancient prayer that helps lead them to their true loves." The singer "has some acting experience," and has appeared "on various TV shows and novelas," but this will be his "feature film acting debut." (mySA)
