$1,000 Reward Offered In Fatal South Austin Shooting Case

A mortally wounded Christian M. Meroney, 32, was found Monday afternoon outside a South Austin apartment complex minutes before he died.

AUSTIN, TX — Police are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of whoever fatally shot a man found outside a luxury apartment complex in South Austin on Monday.

Police also identified the victim in their Tuesday advisory. Christian M. Meroney, 32, was found dead outside the Post South Lamar Apartments, 1500 S. Lamar Blvd., on Monday, July 9, just before 1:45 p.m. Officers responding to the scene reported seeing obvious trauma to Meroney's body as they tried to assist him before EMS medics arrived.

Meroney died shortly after officers' arrival, succumbing to his injuries at 1:56 p.m., according to the advisory.

Homicide detectives conducted witness interviews and collected evidence at the scene towward the end of locating a suspect. Police said the Travis County Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on Tuesday morning and ruled the manner of death a homicide. Meroney died from a gunshot wound, police said.
