5-Year-Old Girl In South Austin Traffic Wreck Dies
Illianna Martinez, 5, has succumbed to injuries suffered in March 21 crash with another vehicle from where its occupants fled the scene.
SOUTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — Police on Tuesday said a 5-year-old child who was involved in a South Austin traffic accident last month has died.
According to a preliminary police investigation, a 2013 blue Dodge Ram was traveling eastbound on Teri Road approach Palo Alto Lane on March 21 at around 7:40 a.m. Simultaneously, a 2010 gold Toyota Venza was traveling northbound on Palo Blanco, turning left onto Teri Road.
As the Toyota turned, the Ram hit it on the left side before all the occupants in the latter vehicle fled on foot. The occupants of the Toyota were transported to Dell Children's Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. Nine days after the impact of the crash, on Saturday, March 30, Illianna Martinez, 5, died just before 5 p.m.

Police said this is Austin’s 14th fatal traffic crash of 2019, resulting in 14 fatalities this year. At this time in 2018, there were 14 fatal traffic crashes and 15 traffic fatalities, police added.
