Austin Police ID Victim Of Fatal Weekend Shooting Along South Congress Avenue

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred last Friday morning in South Austin.

Van Kevin White, 51, died after being shot by an unknown suspect on May 19 just after 7 a.m. at 611 S. Congress Ave. Medics with Austin-Travis County EMS transported White to University Medical Center Brackenridge hospital for treatment of his injuries, but he died shortly after arriving at the facility.

Homicide detectives are still interviewing witnesses and following up on leads, police said. Based on information currently available, the Austin Police Department said it's not believed the public is at risk in relation to this incident—an assertion usually made when there's an inkling the suspect and victim knew each other. No arrests have been made in the case, police said.
