Lucky Person Buys Million-Dollar Powerball Ticket In S. Austin

Ticket bought at a Valero convenience store matched five of six numbers.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX -- It’s not a billion, but a million dollars is nothing to sneeze at.

While nobody won the record-breaking Powerball jackpot on Saturday, someone did buy a ticket with five of the six winning numbers worth about a million bucks.

Texas Lottery officials said a winning ticket was sold at the Valero Corner Store at 4600 William Cannon Dr. in Southwhest Austin. That’s across the street from the Shops at Arbor Trails housing several restaurants and retailers, including a Costco and a Whole Foods store.

The ticket matched all five drawn numbers except for the bonus Powerball, yielding a value of about a million dollars.

Two other such million-dollar tickets were sold in El Paso and Cove, a town some 35 miles east of Central Houston.

Because nobody won Saturday’s humongous $949 million jackpot, the value of the next draw is a ginormous $1.3 billion, give or take. The pot for Wednesday’s drawing is the biggest in world history.
