Man Answering 'Back Page' Sex Ad Winds Up Shot Dead In South Austin

Dinieski Castillo Leyva, 43, and two pals answered sexually oriented ad but was shot by Julian Juan Medrano, 17, after asking for refund.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Wednesday identified the suspect in a homicide in South Austin that occurred this past Sunday.

Austin homicide detectives arrested Julian Juan Medrano, 17, for the murder of Dinieski Castillo Leyva, 43, police said. The incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. at 2501 Anken Dr. on July 9. Medrano is currently at the Travis County Jail following his arrest.

According to a police investigation, Leyva and two companions had responded to a sexually oriented ad on the Back Page website and drove to an apartment at the Anken address on the night of the killing. During the transaction, an argument emerged over services not rendered, police said. A violent argument was sparked after Leyva and his companions asked for a refund, according to the account.

As a result of the dispute, Leyva and his companions fled the apartment, with Leyva running to his truck and getting into the driver's seat, started the vehicle and began to back out of the property, police said. That's when Medrano ran to the from of the pickup and fired one round into the vehicle, hitting Leyva and killing him on the spot. Still in gear, the truck rolled back, striking several parked cars before coming to a stop, police said.

Additional charges against others involved are expected to be filed as detectives continue to investigate, police said. A booking photo of Medrano will be released at a later time, police added.
