Pedestrian Killed Along Montopolis Avenue

Traffic fatality preceded by three other road deaths along Austin roadways in a busy 24-hour period for EMS officials.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX -- An already-deadly weekend on Austin roads logged another traffic fatality Sunday evening after a pedestrian was killed after being struck by a car in South Austin.

A woman in her 30s was pronounced dead at the scene in the 700 block of Montopolis Drive, according to Austin-Travis County EMS officials. The woman was pronounced dead at 7:18 p.m. on St. Valentine’s Day.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the woman stayed on the scene and was cooperating with law enforcement officials in their investigation, according to police.

No other details were immediately forthcoming, including whether alcohol or speed played a part in the collision.

It’s been a deadly weekend on local roadways, the latest accident preceded by a trio of earlier traffic fatalities in quick succession. On the same day as the pedestrian was hit, EMS officials responded to the 90 block of Congress Avenue at 2:30 p.m. to recover the body of a 50-year-old male found in Lady Bird Lake.
