Police ID Man Shot Dead In South Austin
Matthew Fernander, 30, was found by police at 7330 Bluff Springs Rd. with obvious trauma to his body after an argument led to shooting.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — Police on Friday identified the man shot dead in South Austin after an argument with another person the previous night at an apartment complex.
Matthew Fernander, 30, was found by police at 7330 Bluff Springs Rd. with obvious trauma to his body on Thursday at around 8:30 p.m. Prior to their arrival, police had gotten a call from the man's roommate telling them he had been shot. The victim was transported to St. David's South Austin Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
In a press briefing the night of the shooting, police said the victim had argued with an unknown person in the breezeway of the apartment complex before he was shot. The mortally wounded man then stumbled back to his unit, prompting the roommate to call police.

On Friday morning, the Travis County Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and ruled the cause of death as a gunshot to the head and the manner of death a homicide. Detectives said they have an idea of who the suspect is, and assured residents there is no imminent danger in the wake of the shooting.
