Police ID Pedestrian Killed In South Austin While Trying To Cross St. Elmo Road
Michael Joseph Howard, 54, is believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the crash that left him dead at the scene, police said.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX -- Police identified the pedestrian who was killed on Sept. 18 as he attempted to cross the street along the 600 block of West St. Elmo Road.
The man was identified as Michael Joseph Howard, 54. He was crossing the street near the intersection of West St. Elmo Road and South First Street when he was hit be a vehicle just before 10 p.m. ten days ago. Patch previously reported on the incident.
Police have determined that a motorist driving a Chevrolet Tahoe had the green light on approaching the intersection. The driver was unable to stop in time before hitting the man, police said. No charges against the driver were expected to be filed.

Howard was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deceased man was said to have been stumbling before being hit, and may have been intoxicated at the time, according to police. A toxicology report is pending.
