Police ID Pedestrian Struck, Killed In South Austin

Dystany Farrias, 32, was walking southbound along the 8100 block of South Interstate 35 service road early Saturday when she was hit.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the pedestrian who died this past Saturday after being hit by a car.

According to a preliminary police investigation, Dystany Farrias, 31, was walking southbound along the 8100 block of South Interstate 35 service road near the right shoulder but partially in the lane of travel at about a quarter until 4 a.m. A 2001, silver Chevrolet pickup was traveling southbound in the right lane when it struck the woman with the right, front quarter panel area of the vehicle.

Farrias was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, who sustained no injuries, remained at the scene until police arrived.

The incident marked Austin’s 20th fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in 21 fatalities. During last year's comparable period, there were 22 fatal traffic crashes with 24 traffic fatalities.
