Police ID Pedestrian Struck, Killed In South Austin

Driver of Peterbilt semi-truck told police he wasn't able to see David Sell, 31, in the dark early morning this week before the man was hit.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TEXAS β€” Police identified the pedestrian who was killed after being struck by a semi-truck on Tuesday in what was the first fatal traffic fatality of the year in Austin.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, Jan. 15, along the 10500 block of North Interstate 35 southbound just before 6:30 a.m. That's where a 2000 Peterbilt semi-truck was traveling southbound in the center lane of I-35 when it struck David Sell, 31, who was not visible to the driver given that it was still dark at the time of the early-morning collision.

Sell was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. No charges are expected to be filed, but police continue to investigate.
