Police Identify Woman Killed in South Austin Crash

The woman was walking southbound in the outside lane of traffic on South Interstate 35 service road when she was fatally struck by a vehicle

A woman who died Monday morning in an auto vs. pedestrian collision on the 7700 block of the South Interstate 35 service road has been identified as Jessica Lynn Hartley.

Hartley, who was in her 20s, was walking southbound in the outside lane of traffic on Nov. 30 at about 5:30 a.m. when she was struck by a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta that was also traveling southbound, police said. The collision took place just north of Slaughter Lane, at the bottom of a hill on the service road. The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver immediately returned to the scene of the collision and cooperated with police, officials said. There was no sign that the driver was intoxicated.

This was Austin’s 84th fatal traffic crash and 92nd fatality of 2015; at this time last year there had been 53 fatality crashes and 60 fatalities.
