Police Seek Suspect After Jogger Is Sexually Assaulted

Surveillance video showing alleged culprit while on the run is released to the public.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX -- Austin police are seeking the public’s help identifying a suspect in a sexual assault allegedly committed against a jogger.

Police said a woman jogging in the 900 block of Grove Boulevard, in the Silver Oak neighborhood, was grabbed from behind Monday morning before being sexually assaulted. The victim reportedly fought back in attempting to prevent the attack, but the suspect fled on foot southbound on Grove Boulevard.

Police told KVUE the assault happened shortly before 10 a.m. Monday in the Roy G. Guerrero Colorado River Metropolitan Park just north of the Austin Community College-Riverside campus in southeast Austin.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 20s, last seen wearing a black hoodie and sweatshit. Police also released surveillance video of the alleged attacker that can be viewed here.

This is the second time in four days a female jogger has been attacked in the area, and in similar fashion.

On Jan. 14, a woman in Cedar Park told police she, too, was grabbed from behind before being sexually assaulted while on a morning run.

Police there are still seeking a suspect in the case.
