Constable Who Saved Child From House Fire Is Hailed A Hero
Deputy David Santee is being called a hero after saving a child during a house fire on Saturday morning.

SPRING, TX — A Harris County deputy constable who saved a 3-year old boy from a burning home in Spring early Saturday morning, wept for the child’s mother and 5-year old who didn’t make it out alive.
The fire erupted sometime at about 2 a.m., in the 2300 block of Pebworth Place, near Cottonshire, and Deputy Constable David Santee and his partner were the first to arrive at the scene.
Tears rolled down Santee’s cheeks as he shared the horrific carnage of the house fire that killed a woman and her child, and severely burned the woman’s husband and their 2-year old son as they tried to escape the burning home.

“It was a pretty intense fire. A lot of heat. A ton of heat,” he recalled.

Unable to break in through the front of the home, Santee and his partner broke through a neighbors fence and ran to the back of the home, calling out for anyone inside.
Santee said he and his partner peered inside through a broken window and could see a pair of legs that looked like a small child.
Santee went through the window, and into the the burning home and grabbed the 3-year old boy, barely making it past the heavy smoke and flames.
He handed the child off to his partner who began CPR to revive the boy who’d topped breathing.
Santee tried to go back inside the inferno, but the but the smoke was too thick and the flames too intense for Santee or his partner to go back inside to save the mother and 5-year old girl, whom they heard calling for help.
The memory of those he could not save — that no one could save — brought tears to Santee, who many are calling a hero.
Meanwhile, the father and his children are being treated at area hospitals for burns and smoe inhalation and are expected to recover.
The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help raise money for funeral expenses.
