Katy ISD Negotiating Naming Rights For Football Stadium Complex
Initial cost of the $58 million stadium, has increased to $70.3 million

KATY, TX -- The Katy ISD board of trustees is negotiating with a business for the naming rights of the district's football stadium complex that includes Jack Rhodes Memorial Stadium and a new stadium that will open in fall 2017.
According to a Houston Chronicle report, the move allows the district to retain its tradition of naming facilities after an individual with deep ties to the community while still partnering with a corporate sponsor.
If the district closes the deal with the lone finalist, which is expected sometime this month, it will join a growing list of school districts in the U.S. that have sold naming rights as a way of obtaining more revenue.

Earlier this year, Cy-Fair ISD sold the naming rights to the football stadium at the Berry Center and the stadium was renamed Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Katy's new stadium, which is under construction, was part of the districts $748 million bond package passed by voters in 2014, and came with a $58 million price tag.

However, since the passage of the bond, costs related to the stadium-related costs have increased to $70.3 million, and could rise an additional $1.8 million with frills, such as a video replay screen that will added before the stadium opens in the coming fall.
The recommendations will be brought to the Katy ISd board of trustees, who cold then render a decision on the new name of the facility.
