Katy ISD Superintendent Addresses Bullying Accusations
Lance Hindt gets a mixed reaction to last week's bullying accusations, while alleged victim Greg Gay said he's disappointed in Hindt.
KATY, TX — A week after he was publicly accused of bullying by a Katy man he went to school with more than 35 years ago, Katy ISD Superintendent Lance Hindt addressed the accusations in an emotional statement at the start of Monday’s school board meeting.
His comments were aimed at the Katy community, as well as Greg Bennett, also know as Greg Gay, who last week accused Hindt of bullying him when they were both junior high school students.
“Ultimately, I will be judged by only one person and that is God, my Lord and savior,” Hindt said.

During a Katy ISD school board meeting on March 19, Gay addressed the board and shared his story of being bullied in 1978 because of his last name.

"I had teachers that bullied me. I had kids that bullied me. I had nobody to turn to,"Gay told the board of trustees.

Gay then accused Hindt of shoving his head in a urinal, busting his lip, and along with a group of boys, kicking him while he was on the bathroom floor.
Gay recalled walking to the principal's office with his clothing covered in urine, and basicaaly being told by the principal to let it go.
Gay was sent home that day, and recalled taking out his father’s pistol and putting the barrel in his mouth.
The news of Hindt’s allegedly bullying 40 years earlier angered many in the Katy community, who stood outside the Katy ISD Administration Building Monday night with signs protesting Hindt’s alleged actions decades earlier.
Shelly Cox, the parent of a Katy ISD student who was also bullied, told KHOU-TV that her child, like Gay, contemplated suicide and the school district never tried to stop the bullying.
Meanwhile, parents inside the boardroom applauded at Hindt’s comments, however, Gay said he was disappointed that Hindt wouldn’t acknowledge the allegation, and didn’t apologize, KTRK reported.
Gay urged students who are being bullied to remain strong and tell teachers, parents and administrators when it happens.
