Fort Bend ISD to vote on boundary changes in October (communityimpact.com) — Fort Bend ISD is preparing to vote in October on new secondary school boundaries that would affect Sugar Land Middle School and several nearby campuses, potentially shifting hundreds of students. The proposals aim to ease crowding at Austin, Elkins and Travis high schools and realign feeder patterns, with students allowed to stay at current campuses without district transportation if changes pass. 
2. Jill Scott postpones final tour dates after testing positive for COVID-19 (thegrio.com) — If you planned to see Jill Scott at Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land, her Aug. 30–31 shows have been postponed to Sept. 11–12 after she tested positive for COVID-19. Tickets will be honored on the new dates, and her U.S. tour is now set to resume Sept. 6 in Detroit before heading back to Sugar Land and then Irving.
3. Fuzzy's Taco Shop has shuttered its Houston locations (nrn.com) — Residents in Sugar Land have lost their local Fuzzy's Taco Shop, as the chain has reportedly closed all three Houston-area locations, including Sugar Land, after a recent rebrand to Fuzzy's Tacos & Margs. The Sugar Land restaurant had been the first full-service model with an expanded menu, but declining sales and broader corporate struggles appear to have ended the experiment.
4. Sugar Land doctor accused of using fake patient to obtain opioid prescription (houstonchronicle.com) — A Sugar Land physician has had his medical license suspended after state regulators alleged he used fake patient profiles to obtain opioid prescriptions for himself, including one picked up at a local pharmacy. Investigators say prescription records show multiple questionable scripts tied to his own contact information, and he now faces a felony charge with a court date set for October.
5. Texas Sixth Grader Wins National School Bus Safety Poster Contest (stnonline.com) — A student from Anne Sullivan Elementary in Sugar Land has earned first place in the K–2 division of the National School Bus Safety Poster Contest, bringing national recognition back to the community. Her win is part of a broader effort by school transportation groups to get kids thinking creatively about bus safety and to spread those messages in classrooms nationwide.
