📰 News we're reading

1. St. Luke's Health hospital in Sugar Land gets new name (communityimpact.com) — Sugar Land's main St. Luke's hospital is now officially called CommonSpirit – St. Luke's Hospital – Sugar Land, reflecting its integration into a larger national health network. Leaders say the rebrand comes alongside new stroke-center certification, upgraded technology, and a virtual care program, changes that could affect how you and your neighbors receive care locally.

2. Finding meaning in my stage 3 triple-negative breast cancer diagnosis (mdanderson.org) — A longtime Sugar Land dance teacher turned her stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis into a mission, using her large local studio and social media presence to inspire mammogram screenings and support UT MD Anderson. She's raised thousands of dollars and organized multiple blood drives while remaining cancer-free since 2022, offering a powerful example of resilience and community impact for Sugar Land families.

3. Apple Crime Log: 20 Stolen Cats, $14K Target Heists, and AirTag Justice (idropnews.com) — Police arrested three suspects after nearly $14,000 in iPads were stolen from the Target store in Sugar Land, catching them in the parking lot before they could escape. Two adults are now in Fort Bend County Jail and a minor is in juvenile detention, and investigators are checking whether the group is tied to similar thefts in nearby counties.

4. Florida puts incident-prone rail crossings first under $356 million grant (railway.supply) — Federal rail funding will help pay for new grade separations on the Sunset Limited route in several Texas cities, including Sugar Land, aiming to remove dangerous rail crossings. While most details focus on Florida, the grant list confirms a large Texas allocation that should eventually improve safety and traffic flow where trains intersect local roads here.
