New City of Temple police chief sworn in (fox44news.com) — Temple has officially sworn in its new police chief, Coy Brown, who will take his formal Oath of Office at the May 7 City Council meeting. Brown comes from Cedar Park with extensive leadership, training, and public safety credentials, and city leaders emphasize his commitment to serving Temple residents. Neighbors are encouraged to welcome him as he steps into this key role.

2. Temple College, technology company collaborate to offer Meta-sponsored AI software development training program (kdhnews.com) — Temple College is launching a Meta-sponsored AI software development program in July, designed to help Temple-area residents, especially veterans, move into the growing Central Texas tech workforce. Local cybersecurity firm Holt Data Solutions is collaborating on the course, which will teach agentic coding, HITRUST certification skills, and how to work with the three new data centers planned for Temple.

3. Temple community advocate dedicates herself to strengthening child safety through car seat education (kwtx.com) — In Temple, McLane Children’s Hospital project coordinator Amanda Coufal-Campbell is being recognized for tirelessly helping families install car seats correctly and understand child passenger safety. Her one-on-one education aims to protect kids across Temple and Central Texas, and her dedication recently earned her a $500 “Be Remarkable” award. Residents can even nominate other local changemakers for similar recognition.

4. Record-setting number of new CASA volunteers sworn in to advocate for local children (kdhnews.com) — CASA of Bell and Coryell Counties just swore in a record 18 new volunteers to advocate for local children in foster care, with half coming from Vista Community Church in Temple. This surge in Temple-area participation comes as child abuse awareness efforts intensify and CASA prepares another training class for residents ready to step into advocacy roles.
