Over 500 UT Tyler engineering students to compete in annual Ratliff Relays (kltv.com) — UT Tyler’s engineering college is hosting its biggest-ever Ratliff Relays on Saturday, with more than 500 students competing in drone courses, rocket launches, cardboard canoes and a tomato-throwing robotics challenge. The free, family-friendly event runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the main campus, and local residents are invited to watch teams test their designs alongside East Texas industry professionals.

2. DOCUMENTS: Man charged in Tyler officer crash drank shots of alcohol, drove at nearly 100 mph (cbs19.tv) — A Tyler police officer remains seriously injured after a Sept. 18 crash in which investigators say a 21-year-old Oklahoma driver left a downtown Tyler bar, sped near 100 mph, and slammed into the officer’s patrol SUV. Newly released arrest documents detail the driver’s alleged drinking, erratic behavior, and current bond conditions restricting him from approaching the officer or his family.

3. Tyler nurses get free lunch as thank-you from local nonprofit (kltv.com) — Tyler nurses were treated to a free lunch from local nonprofit Christy’s Safe Haven as a thank-you for their year-round care. The Tyler-based group also runs abstinence education, mentoring, job training and scholarships for youth ages 10 to 20, partnering with schools, churches and local businesses while its founder shares her journey from teen mom to business owner to inspire students’ choices.

4. Grace Community rallies to open district with win (tylerpaper.com) — Grace Community School fans in Tyler saw a big Homecoming finish as the Cougars stormed back from a 14-0 deficit to beat Arlington Grace Prep 39-21 at Clyde-Perkins Stadium. A huge fourth quarter, led by quarterback Slade Etheredge and receiver Christian Henry, helped Grace open district play 1-0 before heading to Dallas Bishop Dunne next week.

5. Samsung wants to quadruple its customer base, and Taiwanese users are starting to joke about Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (aroged.com) — Samsung’s global chip ambitions include a major local angle, with its first Tyler manufacturing plant expected to start initial operations in late 2026. While most of the story focuses on worldwide competition with TSMC and SMIC, the new Tyler facility could eventually bring advanced semiconductor jobs and investment directly into the community.
