Waco animal shelter gets $600,000 donation of screwworm-prevention medication (star-telegram.com) — Waco pet owners should know the city animal shelter just received nearly $600,000 in donated medication to prevent dangerous New World screwworm infestations in cats and dogs. The Waco City Council approved the gift, and doses are already being given to shelter animals and some community pets. Local experts also explain what symptoms to watch for and how to report suspected cases.
   

2. Cameron Park Zoo animals return to island habitat (fox44news.com) — Families in Waco can once again visit the white-handed gibbons and lemurs on their island habitats at Cameron Park Zoo after repairs to the surrounding lake were finished. The Butterfly Garden has also reopened with new paths, a fountain, sensory beds for kids, and fresh educational signs honoring the Junior League of Waco's 90th anniversary.
   

3. Waco city council annexes land for future wastewater plant amid Brazos River concerns (kwtx.com) — Waco's City Council has annexed more than 153 acres near Buster Chatham Road, positioning the city for a possible future wastewater treatment plant to serve fast-growing northwestern neighborhoods. Officials say design work is years away, but Brazos River residents are already raising concerns about flooding, water quality, property values, and whether the Chalk Bluff site is appropriate.
   

4. Shooting Our Short 'But I'm a Shoe' at the Waco Regional Airport (moviemaker.com) — A quirky short film about a talking sneaker was shot largely at Waco Regional Airport, thanks to help from airport staff, TSA, and the Waco Independent Film Festival. The director describes how Waco's small, flexible airport, local crew from Baylor University, and community extras made the New York–set story possible and helped the film reach festivals nationwide, including Waco Indie.
   

5. Local students decorate sidewalks with art (fox44news.com) — Sidewalks around Waco and McLennan County are turning into colorful obstacle-course artworks designed by local students and installed by professional artists. The Creative Waco-led project, supported by the City of Waco Parks and Recreation and the health district, encourages families to get outside, be active, and enjoy student creativity in parks, schools, and neighborhood spaces.
