Central Texas man stole victim's identity to apply for personal loans, vehicle financing: affidavits (kwtx.com) — Waco police arrested a Bruceville-Eddy man accused of using stolen personal information, forged IDs, and altered bank records to secure loans and attempt vehicle financing, according to affidavits. Investigators say the scheme involved changing a local victim's bank contact details, submitting multiple fraudulent credit applications, and presenting a fake Texas driver's license that combined two victims' data with the suspect's photo.
   

2. Belk to close Waco location in January 2027; Hobby Lobby moving into space (kwtx.com) — Waco shoppers will see big changes at Central Texas Marketplace as Belk plans to close its W. Loop 340 store on January 8, 2027, with Hobby Lobby set to move into the space under a long-term lease. Hobby Lobby will relocate from Richland Drive, and while no remodeling permits are filed yet, more construction details are expected once the city receives applications.
   

3. Waco man sentenced to 40 years in prison in sexual assault of intellectually disabled woman (kwtx.com) — A Waco man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after DNA evidence tied him to the sexual assault of a 20-year-old intellectually disabled woman, avoiding a possible automatic life term through a plea deal. Prosecutors say the agreement in Waco's 19th State District Court spares the victim from testifying while still aiming to keep him from harming anyone else.
   

4. T-Mobile Names the Top 40 Finalists in the Race for a $1 Million Field Upgrade (tmonews.com) — University High School in Waco has been named one of 40 national finalists in T-Mobile's Friday Night 5G Lights contest, guaranteeing the school $25,000 and a special home game celebration. With daily fan voting through October 25, the Waco community can help the Trojans compete for up to a $1 million home field upgrade and other major prizes.
