Jailed Woodlands Coach Also Facing Child Porn Charges

Juan Corona aka "Coach Manny" is charged with sexual assault of a child, and faces charges of producing child pornography.

THE WOODLANDS, TX — A Montgomery County softball coach who is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year old student is facing additional charges in another case. Investigators with the Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office said Juan Manuel Corona, aka “Coach Manny,” 44, was a softball coach for 25 years. For 17 of those years he coached kids in The Woodlands.

Corona, who gave private lessons to students, allegedly assaulted them during the lessons and then coerced and threatened them to keep quiet. If they didn't, he warned, he would not allow them to play or would harm their families.

Corona was arrested at his home Jan 3 after the parents of a 14-year-old student told investigators Corona had sexually assaulted their daughter after picking her up at school for a private lesson.

The parents learned of the incident after a friend of the 14-year-old accompanied her to a lesson and told them Corona had stopped on the way to practice and bought the girls alcohol, officials said. When the parents learned about the alcohol, they started asking questions and learned of the sexual assault.

Shortly after Corona’s arrest, four other possible victims came forward. One of them was just 12-years old when, she claims, Corona began continuously sexually assaulting her in 2002, KPRC reported.

During the course of the investigation, which is still ongoing, police searched Corona’s home and found evidence that corroborated claims of sexual assault from his victim in 2002, and possibly others. That evidence included videos and photographs.

Others who’ve called investigators about their relationship with Corona are sharing their information with police.

Officials said Corona — who is being held in the Montgomery County Jail with a bond of $300,000 — could face not only additional sexual assault charges, but charges related to the production of child pornography.

Other victims or anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Montgomery County Constable Office Pct. 3 at 281-364-4211.
