The Woodlands votes to replace private mounted patrol with sheriff's deputies (houstonchronicle.com) — The Woodlands Township has voted to replace longtime private Alpha & Omega mounted patrols with a new Montgomery County Sheriff's Office mounted unit, bringing sworn deputies with arrest powers into local retail areas. Officials say the change should expand law-enforcement capabilities while slightly reducing annual costs, though it may mean layoffs for many current troopers as the Alpha & Omega contract ends December 31.
