Woodlands Man Accused Of Drug Trafficking In Dominican Republic Goes On Trial
Larry Davis has been imprisoned in the Dominican Republic for a year after his boat was used by a client to ship narcotics

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- A family in The Woodlands will be paying close attention to a trial that gets underway this week in the Dominican Republic, and hoping the wheels of justice turn quickly in their favor.
On Tuesday, officials in the small island nation commenced the trial of Larry Davis, 44, of The Woodlands, who is accused of international narcotics trafficking after a boat he and his father leased to a Honduran businessman in January 2016, was found carrying 986 kilos of cocaine and 3 kilos of heroin.
If Davis is convicted, he could spend then next 20 years in prison.

It’s been a year-long ordeal for a family whose dad was a key figure in weekend soccer games, and who walked with his two sons to school.

“I just keep praying, praying that someone can make it right," his wife, Stacy told the Houston Chronicle.
In all began in late February 2016, with a phone call when Davis was contacted by officials in the Dominican Republic that the boat he’d leased was being inspected.
Davis purchased a round trip ticket, and flew out the next morning to Santo Domingo.
Just days after his arrival, and on the day he was to fly back home, Davis was arrested and charged with narcotics trafficking, beginning a year-long nightmare for Davis and his family.
For nearly 10 years, Larry and his father Quentin Davis ran a fuel trading business together, but all of that changed more than year ago when Larry’s mother was diagnosed with terminal leukemia.
To devote more time to her, Larry and Quentin put the business on hold, and several months later they leased the boat to Joseph Hynds, who reportedly has ties in the fuel trading business.
A month later, Hynds had vanished, and Davis and the crew were left to take the fall.
Over the course of their ordeal, his mother passed away, and Davis has endured disease and the pain of separation thousands of miles from his wife and two sons.
Representatives from U.S. Sen. John Cornyn’s office, and U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady’s office have been working to free Davis from prison, and have intervened on his behalf.
“Throughout this ordeal, my staff and I have worked to bring him home and I have pressed Dominican Republic officials for Larry's immediate release,” Brady said in a statement. “I pray that he will receive a fair trial…,be fully exonerated and return home to his wife, children, family and friends in The Woodlands as quickly as possible.”
